The Team at Coco Unika - Meet Carol

Tell us a bit about your role at Coco Unika
I am responsible for meeting and greeting visitors to our showroom in Moss Vale; something I particularly enjoy. In between times, I attend to accounts and create content for our instagram stories.
What do you enjoy most about working in this industry?
People! Our passions, culture, upbringing and beliefs inform how we live; what is meaningful and nurturing to us. I feel fortunate when customers share their stories with me. How the rich colours of a wooden bowl immediately transports them to their childhood and their mothers kitchen, how the Kristina mirror will enliven a darkened hallway or how much they’re looking forward to enjoying coffee and sunshine from the comfort of a new chair.
What trends have you noticed lately in the furniture and homewares space?
Hand woven Danish cord has been popular in seating, and cane is also enjoying a revival. Natural materials like leather and timber will always be on trend for providing comfort and luxury.
Camping in my husband’s workshop during a Highlands winter fit-out made me fully appreciate the term “soft furnishings”, so it’s no surprise the first item I chose for home was the Bianca boucle cushion. It amuses my husband and makes me smile every time I look at it.

Favourite interior design trend?
If eclectic is a trend, that’s me. I enjoy seeing how others nest their homes. What they consider precious and attribute value to. The living spaces of others are fragments of their stories, so even if it’s not my style, there’s so much that can excite and inspire from seeing how others live.
Your design wouldn't be complete without?
A couple of statement furniture pieces, a little bit of greenery in every room, fragrant candles, travel mementos and books.
If you could visit any place in the world?
Take me to Morocco! History and tradition, architecture, food, art, music. It represents a vibrant culture filled with colour and exotic flavours. Exactly what I’m looking for when travelling.

LAUREN
Creative Director

Tell us a bit about your role at Coco Unika
As the creative director I work on every aspect of the business from product design through to overseeing the manufacture, marketing and sales.
What do you enjoy most about working in this industry?
Working on new designs and watching them come to life is something I thoroughly enjoy. Among our latest collections, 'Gathered' and 'Softly' stand out as my personal favorites, as they incorporate natural materials that celebrate the beauty in imperfections. I am passionate about paying attention to detail, and appreciate the textures and grains of beautiful materials. Our recent collections have embraced the wabi-sabi philosophy, which cherishes imperfections and recognizes the transience of nature. I have always been fascinated by both historical and contemporary interiors and architecture, and find the process of bringing a concept to fruition immensely satisfying. Helping customers transform their living spaces into something they truly love by finding the perfect piece of furniture or decor item is the most rewarding part of my job. The industry is constantly evolving, presenting new opportunities to learn and grow, which keeps me on my toes.

What trends have you noticed lately in the furniture and homewares space?
In recent times, there has been a significant shift towards sustainability and eco-friendliness, with a growing number of consumers actively seeking out products made from sustainable materials or produced with minimal environmental impact. This trend is reflected in the prevalence of organic forms, sculptural surfaces, and tactile textures in interior design. Another recent development is the renewed appreciation for family heirlooms and mid-century furniture, which I wholly embrace! Incorporating beloved pieces that have been passed down through generations into one's interior design can greatly influence the overall aesthetic and create a unique identity and personality within the space.
Favourite interior design trend?
Earthy tones, unlacquered brass hardware, textured tiles and minimal but statement styling.
Your design wouldn't be complete without?
Handmade, sustainable furniture, natural stone and marble, boucle fabric, french linen, statement lighting, precious family heirlooms and subtle meaningful pieces collected on travels
If you could visit any place in the world?
I love travelling and exploring different cultures throughout the world, but Europe, for its diverse range of architecture and history.
